He looked up to his father as his role model. Jem always followed Scout around wherever she went but as time goes by in the book he beings his adolescence changes. He wanted his sister to look up to him and he wanted to be a good example to her. Atticus Finch was the father of Jean Louise and Jem he was the one that taught them good morals.

Setting:
Setting Time: Great Depression in the 1931
Setting Place: Alabama South of Maycomb

Vocabulary:
Brethren- Fellow members

Plot:
To Kill a Mockingbird is a story in which to young kids Scout and Jem learn that not everyone is willing to help you, and that not everything in life is fair. Throughout the story Scout, Jem, and Dill meet Arthur "Boo" Radley who they think is an evil "Monster." But in reality he himself is innocent. They always heard rumors that he stabbed his father with a pair of scissors. So Jem, Scout, and Dill started to make plans of how to get him out of the house. But throughout the story Arthur was not the only one that judged. During the trail Tom Robinson presents evidence that he is innocent but is still convicted guilty.

Conflict: Man vs. Self
Major Conflict: When Atticus had to choose between defending a colored innocent man in a trial and have the town against him or if he chose not to defend Tom Robinson and have it on his conscience.
Rising Action: Atticus discovers evidence to prove that Tom Robinson is innocent and that Bob Ewell was the one who abused his daughter after finding out that she wanted to get with Tom Robinson.
Climax: Tom Robinson is convicted guilty even after having evidence of being innocent. Bob Ewell attacks Atticus's Children in order to get revenge on Atticus for having defended Tom Robinson.

2"Quotes" Explanation
"Jem Gave reasonable description of Boo: Boo was about 6 1/2 feet tall, judging from his tracks; dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, thats why his hand were bloodstained- if you never wash the blood off there was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drolled most of the time."
"He could add and subtract faster than lighting, However he preferred his own twilight world, a world where babies slept, waiting to be gathered like morning lilies"

In the Above quote Jem makes a description of how he imagines Boo, how he thinks Arthur looks like. They imagine him as a big person, and him eating animals. They described him as a "Monster" because of all the things they heard about him. In the second quote Scout is describing how Dill could be a very intelligent person but doesn't show it because he's in his own little world. Scout could be a young little girl but she observes things as if she was a grown-up.

Themes:
Prejudice: Atticus Finch as a lawyer always believe that you should always treat someone with respect and they shouldn't be judged beforehand Atticus always tried to teach his children respect, and racism. For example Jean and Jem would always encourage Dill to put down Arthur "Boo" Radley, when Atticus Found out their rudely behavior he corrected them and said that they wouldn't like to be taunted. Another example is when Tom Robinson was judged and the accusation made about him raping a white lady and he was seen guilty by all-white juries because he was black.

Scruples: Atticus Finch not only taught he's kids about respect but he always saw people being good and never doing anything bad to hurt anyone but everything changed with the Tom Robinson Trail. They were taught that everyone deserved to be respected and that everyone deserved an opportunity in life. Calpurnia taught Scout by making her copy scripts of the bible, things she copied were always good morals. The Finch family weren't always closed minded like everyone in town, they wouldn't judge a book by its cover.
