Session Part Two- Part A; Power Of Reading [Revised]

Your Task: After you have read the passage and answered the multiple-choice questions, write a unified essay about the power of reading as revealed in the passages. In your essay, use ideas from both passages to establish a controlling idea about the power of reading. Using evidence from each passage, develop your controlling idea and show how the author uses specific literary elements or techniques to convey that idea.

Revised

Reading Novels, Poems, Short Stories, etc. makes you see things in different point of views sometimes what you think might be changing by what you read. In the poem "The Reader" by Richard Wilbur it is in third person point of view and The excerpt from "A General In Library" proves how much power reading has on an individual.
"For heaven's sake! The Things you learn! who would ever have!"Signor Crispino quoted from the excerpt. His opinion of reading changed so much, he went on a mission "blaming" books for the "catastrophes" that was being said about military.Yet came out thinking totally different. "They were constantly discovering new interests to satisfy and were enjoying their reading and studies." Not only does Italo uses Irony but Italo Calvino uses imagery by describing the characters, and the setting where this event took place Signo Crispino, and the four lieutenants learned so many things, saw things in different points thinking you're going to get your mission done right and you come out with ideas that would shock you just like it would shock other people because after all that reading you've done you know that you will come back in the future. As I kept reading it demonstrated the power reading had because they say that in life no one can change what you think or your opinions, but novels, short stories poems, etc. change that because you learn new things as you read.
On the other hand, in " The Reader" by Richard Wilbur the narrator knows and feels the power of reading. Richard Wilbur conveys imagery by quoting "And a page turns now with a scuffing around." The Power of reading could be really strong. It could be really strong because it makes you want to keep reading the book more, or again. Richard Wilbur quotes "She is going back, theses days, to great stories. That charmed her mind." That's an example of the power of reading. The character in the second poem explains how now she sees things that she never noticed before, realizing that reading has a big power. " To enter life on life and see them through." Another thing is this passage is in third person point of view because characters are being described.
In addition, both readings prove to have a big power in ones life. Even though the passages are told differently and are seen in different point of views it shows you that reading will and could change your life. Richard
